David A. Clayman, Ph.D.
Clinical & Forensic Psychologist
David A. Clayman, Ph.D., is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with a wide range of practical experience in dealing with “people problems.” He has developed and managed a large professional practice, a software company, an executive consulting and assessment business, as well as a multi-faceted program addressing concerns in the corrections industry.
Dr. Clayman has over 30 years of experience in the forensic psychological evaluation field. He has been known as a friend to the court, offering nonbiased reports for criminal and civil litigation. He has completed an estimated 4,500 evaluations and has testified as an expert witness in state and federal courts. In the past he served as a Medical Expert to the Office of Hearings and Appeals the Social Security Administration. Clinically, his “no nonsense approach” to complex issues has become his trademark as he helps individuals, families, businesses and organizations define problems and implement practical solutions.
Dr. Clayman is in demand as a speaker who helps groups retain a value-oriented approach to achieving success. He works with displaced and stressed executives. Additionally, Dr. Clayman has been involved in crisis management activities with a wide range of business, organizations and community groups. [SEE VITA]
Dr. Clayman received his B.A. in Psychology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont. He joined the faculty at West Virginia University Medical School, Charleston Division, in 1974. In 1981, he founded Process Strategies Institute, a full-service mental health practice, and served as its CEO/Director. In 2001, this practice merged with another group and after three years, in the spring of 2004, he went back into private practice and is now the Director of Clayman & Associates, PLLC.
Dr. Clayman has been active in many community, business and professional organizations. serving on the boards of what has come to be known as Hospice Care, Inc. and Mission West Virginia, an initiative of Governor Cecil Underwood, linking faith communities with various educational and health programs. For the former he was the founding president and was the original Chairman of the Board for the latter on which he still serves. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of Leadership West Virginia. For his outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the mental health community he was presented the 2009 Mildred Mitchell-Bateman, M.D. Tribute Award by the Mental Health Association of the Greater Kanawha Valley. He has been elected member-at large to the board of the West Virginia Psychological Association and serves as the West Virginia designee to the American Psychological Association as Public Education Coordinator and Federal Advocacy Coordinator. In the past, Dr. Clayman has been a state finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year program (1992 and 1998) and was one of the ten honorees in the Who’s Who in Business in West Virginia in 1997. Dr. Clayman was inducted into the West Virginia Executive Magazine's Health Care Hall of Fame in March of 2020.
Dr. Clayman resides in Charleston, West Virginia, with his wife, Janet, and their cat.

Steven Cody, Ph.D.
Clinical & Forensic Neuropsychologist
Before assuming his current position with Clayman & Associates, PLLC, Dr. Cody was Professor of Medical Psychology at Marshall University where he served on the faculty of the School of Medicine for 24 years. Dr. Cody has more than two decades of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students in psychology as well as medical students in behavioral medicine, psychopathology, neuroscience, and geropsychology. In addition, he has extensive experience in clinical teaching and supervision and in clinical and institutional consulting. His clinical experience includes practice in inpatient and outpatient primary care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings, and inpatient and outpatient mental health care. He has offered workshops and other presentations on a variety of topics in clinical psychology and neuropsychology at local, state, and national levels. Dr. Cody retired as Director of Psychology at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital in 2024.
Dr. Cody's principal areas of practice have been clinical and forensic neuropsychology. He has experience in a wide range of settings including inpatient and outpatient mental health, rehabilitation, general hospital, and primary care. [SEE VITA]
Jennifer Onks, M.A., MBA
Director of Operations
Jennifer Onks is currently the Director of Operations at Clayman & Associates. Her duties include managing daily operational activities, project planning, contracts and budgets, vendor relations and human resources.

A 2005 graduate of Marshall University, Jennifer obtained her master's degree in Clinical Psychology. She is also a 2018 MBA program graduate from West Virginia University.

In January 2002, Jennifer joined the Clayman & Associates team as an intern during her final semester as an undergraduate. During her tenure she has been in several roles including psychometrist and supervised psychologist. She has had many responsibilities including government contracts within the regional jail and correctional setting. She has interviewed and screened over 10,000 inmates throughout her career and has worked in conjunction with a large, multi-million dollar company providing human resource assistance with resume review, pre-hire testing, and panel interviewing. She is well versed in psychological testing and has performed assessments on disability applicants, Child Protective Services clients, and has provided educational recommendations. She also consults with Dr. Clayman with clients in need of organizational recommendations.

Jennifer is a graduate of the Leadership West Virginia Class of 2016.

Sarah Ginn, M.A.
Psychometrician
After obtaining a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from Ball State University in 2000, Sarah Ginn worked in Indiana for over six years as the chief psychometrician where she primarily tested nursing home residents.
Originally from the Charleston/Huntington area, Sarah returned home in 2008 and began her work as a psychometrician with Clayman & Associates. In that time, she has provided testing services to a wide array of clients, ranging from 13 years old to 89 years old, and for a variety of reasons such as criminal responsibility and competency, parental fitness, pre-employment, and dementia.
When not working, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, reading science fiction, and exercising.
Ashley Hoey
Forensic Services Coordinator
Ashley joined Clayman & Associates in 2015. She serves as liaison between our clients and staff and is in charge of office administration and graphic design/marketing. She is also an artist whose work has been shown in the U.S. and abroad.
